We made a podcast in this lesson as an assignment. While I am deciding the topic and type of podcast, I choose the BBC style podcast. And, I will discuss about ‘Why are we so obsessed with bad news?’ in my podcast. When I decide the topic of podcast, I had a hard time. Because of that I had 60 seconds to talk about the topic, it had to be clear enough to convey the message. I wanted that topic is both interesting and catching.

The human brain gets hung up on bad things more, I think that we are lazy in noticing positive things. For example, when someone says something nice to you, you can forget it a few hours later. However, if someone says something bad about you, you might obsessed with it for days. Even though focusing on bad experiences helps us to take lessons from these, this habit could demoralize us with time. That’s why it is important to focus on the good side of events.

Maybe this video provides a little more information about this subject.

I would give a similar task to my learners in the future because this makes learning more fun and effective. Instead of just listening to lesson, preparing to explain a subject would make them more active. Furthermore, producing audio content allows them to use the internet creatively and increases their self-esteem. They might be shy in the first times but you find their own voices, they start to enjoy with process. They would see that learning is possible not only from books, but also by talking and sharing.

And also I want to talk about advantages of disadvantages of this task.

Advantages:

1. Students learn to express their thoughts clearly, regularly
2. They have to research to find correct information, and thus improve their academia skills.
3. They improve themselves in using the technology.
4. If they work as a group, they learn to job share and produce together.
5. Sharing their own voices can be frightening but it can turn into big self confidence in time.

Disadvantages:

• It takes effort to prepare a good podcast, and this can decreases time that they devote to other lessons.
• Everyone may not have microphone, computer or a quiet environment.
• Some students can be stressed because they don’t know what to say.
• At the groups works, if not everyone ensure equal participation, some problems can be occur.

To sum up, preparing podcast can be intrusive and creative for the students. While this process improves their academic and social skills and also increases their tendency to technology. Of course there some problems but when the right guidance and appropriate environment are provided, these problems can be overcome. Innovative applications like podcast provide that students be active and productive by going out of traditional education.
